Arrival & airport
Mumbai has two airports that are quite close to each other, one of which is only served by domestic aircraft and the other by international aircraft. The international airport in Mumbai is called Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. There are currently direct flights once a day from Europ, Australia, South Africa and Canda etc. You can find cheap flights to Mumbai here. The center of the city is approximately 15 kilometers away and can be easily reached by taxi or public transport.
Sightseeing Features
Mumbai has a lot of sights in store for you. Due to the city’s long colonial history, you will find some architectural masterpieces from different eras here. Numerous theaters, museums and galleries are also part of the cityscape, as are many markets, restaurants and cafes. First of all, my Mumbai profile should be used to get to know the most beautiful sights of the former Bombay.
Gateway of India
The imposing archway directly on the Arabian Sea in the Colaba district is undisputedly the largest landmark in the city of Mumbai. Tips About Bombay is the 26-meter-high archway is not old at all, as one might initially think. It was completed in 1924 according to the plans of the British architect George Wittet. The archway is intended to commemorate the visit of King George V in 1911 and is intended to create an impressive welcome for the passengers of the British steamships. But in 1948, the last British ship launched from the archway, symbolizing the end of British rule and India’s independence, the Gateway of India took on even greater significance. Today it is a tourist attraction and an ideal place for evening walks. Elephanta Caves
Almost ten kilometers east of Mumbai is the small wooded island of Elephanta, which has such a special attraction to offer that it definitely cannot be missing from my Mumbai profile. Several mystical cave temples are waiting for you to visit. There are a total of six cave temples spread across the entire island with numerous images of the goddess Shiva and various statues carved into the rock. Researchers suspect that the statues date back to the Kalachuri dynasty or the Mauryan Empire. You can either book a guided tour from Mumbai, which already includes a boat trip, or you can just book the boat trip, which will take you to the island within an hour. The caves have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987.

Museums
One of the most famous and largest museums in all of India is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. The museum impresses not only with its unique architecture but also with the immense selection of historical ethnographic, and natural history artifacts. It is located on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Mumbai, not far from the Bombay High Court and the Gateway of India. A visit can therefore be perfectly combined with other sights. Another interesting museum in the city is the Jehangir Art Gallery with contemporary art from all over the world in more than five exhibition rooms. The Mani Bhavan Museum building once served as Mahatma Gandhi’s base and is now a memorial to Gandhi. The museum houses an extensive library, many photos, and historical furnishings.
Markets
What would Mumbai be without its numerous markets? In a city where the gap between rich and poor is not only clearly visible but also continues to grow, markets are particularly important for the locals. One of the most popular and tourist-developed markets is the Crawford Market, which offers you a wide selection of fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat and chocolate. In addition to all the food, the market also has some architectural highlights to see, which is why this market is so popular. Also recommended is the Chor Bazaar in the Muslim quarter with numerous antiques, the Linking Road Market in one of Mumbai’s hottest suburbs with a successful mix of traditional and modern, and Fashion Street with great fashion for young and old. Beaches
Since Mumbai is located directly on the Indian west coast, the metropolis of course also has a few fantastic beaches to offer you. Versova Beach, which was cleared of over 6,000 tons of plastic waste in 2015, was in the media for a long time so that the olive ridley sea turtles, which were threatened with extinction, could finally come back after three years. The Marine Drive is also particularly impressive; it is a seaside promenade that you can drive and stroll along with a great view of the sea.
