Chittorgarh Rajasthan

Chittorgarh Fort – Rajasthan

The big city should not be missed on a tour of Rajasthan. It is located in western northern India and is home to 130,000 inhabitants. Religious diversity is very high here and in addition to the craftsmanship, it attracts many tourists.

The biggest attraction of the city is the so-called fort, which is located on a mountain range above Chittorgarh – all the important sights can be found here. These include the majestic Victory Tower and various palaces inside and outside the fort walls. There are also many museums, treasures, and even a wildlife park to visit.

The first evidence of the city dates back to the first millennium BC. However, it gained the most fame through three sieges, which were aimed at the Rajputs who lived there at the time. When the situation began to seem hopeless, the men jumped into battle, certain to die, while the women and children committed ritual suicide. This behavior is still the subject of many heroic stories from the region today.

Chittorgarh Fort

The Chittorgarh Fort is a sight you must see if you are on a tour of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is the largest fort in India and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located on a 180-meter-high hill, the entire fort complex with numerous gates and temples as well as several water reservoirs, some of which are still preserved, stretches for about 2.8 square kilometers and is surrounded by a wall. Construction began in the 7th century, and there are many legends about the exact circumstances. Make sure you give yourself enough time to visit the different areas of the fort. The numerous towers, called pillars, are undoubtedly worthwhile: not only true architecture fans will be amazed by the countless details and artistic decorations. The oldest monument in the complex is the Rana Kumbha Palace, of which only ruins remain.
