Ajmer – Rajasthan, India

About 130 kilometers from the city of Jaipur, in the center of the Indian state of Rajasthan, lies the city of Ajmer. Apart from its approximately 490,000 inhabitants, it is also home to some important landmarks such as the Masiyan Mandir (Red Temple), the Adhai-Din-Ka-Jhopra Mosque, the Sufi Tomb and the Akbar Palace. The latter was built in 1570 by the then-Indian Mughal Akbar. The Akbar Palace is one of the most heavily fortified palaces in southeastern Rajasthan. This impressive building has housed a museum since 1908. Another main attraction of Ajmer is Ana Sagar, an artificial lake just outside the city. On the southern bank, tourists may be surprised to see the impressive Khobra Behrun Temple. Ajmer should not be missed when visiting Rajasthan.
