This trip will take us to Northern India to discover several spiritual traditions such as Hinduism and Sikhism and will immerse us in ancestral rituals and practices.
This trip will first allow us to discover Amritsar, a spiritual center for followers of the Sikh religion. The name Amritsar means “ocean of nectar” comes from the sacred lake which houses the famous and unique Golden Temple. In the heart of the city, the golden domes of the most sacred Sikh temples are reflected in the waters of the basin. We will immerse ourselves in this unique atmosphere for 2 days and discover the largest restaurant in the world which serves more than 100,000 meals daily…for free.
We will then continue our journey by taking the night train in berths to reach the Capital of Yoga, namely Rishikesh. Situated on the banks of the Ganges and at the foot of the Himalayas, Rishikesh has been known since medieval times as the celestial abode of the gods: it is a great spiritual center of India which attracts large numbers of pilgrims, saints and Sadhu. We will spend 4 days in this place between excursions, yoga, swimming in the Ganges, Ashram visits and a stay in the forest.
After 4 days, we will leave to go to one of the oldest cities in the world, Varanasi (formerly Benares). We will walk on the Ghats to discover and admire the crowds of pilgrims, coming from all regions of India, performing with devotion the ritual ablutions in the sacred river. We will explore the old city with its kaleidoscope of experiences, colorful rainbows with women in saris, street vendors, sacred cows, and the cremations of bodies on the banks of the river, a moment of great intensity and loaded with intense emotions. Several walks will show us the scenes of daily life in the very photogenic ancient Benares.
On the 10th day, we will fly to Jaipur, the pink city where we will visit the wonders of the Mughal Empire which made the reputation and splendor of this city at the gateway to the desert: Amber Fort, Palace of the Winds and the Royal Palace. Jaipur is also an excellent stopover for purchasing souvenirs (clothes, scarves, stones, etc.).
To end this trip, we will head towards Agra, and we will discover one of the most fantastic monuments Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is in fact a mausoleum built in the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan following the death of his wife Mumtaz Mahal during the birth of their 14th child! In Agra we will also visit the Red Fort or Agra Fort.
